This is going to be the 8th day in a row of rain. The downpours have been intermittent with thunderheads and patches of blue sky. We have had a record breaking month of precipitation so far. Winds are picking up today and more turbulent weather is in the forecast. The photos are NOT from the 6:55 am data.

Monday at noon. Clouds are beginning to pack in around the Ruby Mountains

One thing is for certain, I pull over to take more pictures of cloud formations
since enrolling in this course. This view is looking NW last evening. Spectacular.

Friday, May 22nd. Stratocumulus

Driving home last night I watched a lightning storm as it moved across the valley. We have had several days with bursts of rain and things seem to be a little wetter than usual for this time of year in NE Nevada.

6:55 AM There appears to be a slight dusting around the 8500' level from yesterday.
More rain and lightning in the forecast for this afternoon-evening.

11:00 AM We have warmed up quickly and cumulus clouds are beginning to develop.

7:00 PM  From the current week lessons: based on a ground level temp of 49.6, and an
environmental lapse rate of 3.8/1000 feet, I estimate the temperature at the lowest level
of the cloud to be 38.2 and the top of the mountain to be about 32.5 (degrees F).
Looks like snow and it very well may be.
